Manav Sthali School under the aegis of Mamta V Bhatnagar, Director & Founder Principal hosted the Inter-School Nukkad Natak (Street Theatre) Competition as part of the Delhi Schools’ Literacy Project – Literacy Week.
The event saw participation from schools across Delhi, with a total of 320 students representing prominent Schools. The competition revolved around the significant theme of “Literacy for Mutual Understanding and Peace,” providing students a platform to creatively express how literacy fosters understanding, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence.
Participants delivered thought-provoking performances, each exploring social issues related to the theme. Principal Mrs. Dipti A. Bhatnagar’s leadership and commitment to empowering youth was instrumental in the success of the event.
The school hosted North West Central Zone and South East Zone schools in two different venues.
The event was graced by Mrs. Shilpa Bhatnagar, Principal, Bhatnagar International School, as the Chief Guest. She commended the efforts of the participating schools and emphasized the importance of literacy as a tool for social change. She encouraged the students to continue using their voices through creative mediums like street theatre to inspire mutual understanding and peace in their communities.
The competition saw schools like Bal Bharati Public School, Jaspal Kaur Public School, Mount Abu Public School, and Manav Sthali School deliver powerful performances, interpreting the theme in various creative ways. The participants emphasized the role of literacy in bridging social divides and fostering harmony. In the South East zone, schools like The Mother’s International School, Sadhu Vaswani International School for Girls, Bhatnagar International School, and K.R. Mangalam World School presented equally compelling performances, exploring themes of literacy, peace, and social unity.
The judges Shomik Ray, a veteran theatre actor, and Geetika Kapoor, an entrepreneur and theatre artist, theatre actor Prodip Ganguly and retired Hindi HOD Namrata Paul, provided valuable insights into the students’ presentations. They appreciated the creative storytelling and the meaningful exploration of the theme and praised the teams for their engaging and impactful presentations. The performances were judged on criteria such as creativity, relevance to the theme, audience engagement, and teamwork.
Despite the simplicity of Nukkad Natak, which restricts costumes and elaborate sets, the teams delivered high-energy performances, engaging the audience with their powerful messages and interactive elements.Every performance highlighted the importance of literacy in promoting mutual understanding and peace, demonstrating how education can bring people together and dissolve societal barriers.True to the nature of street theatre, the participants involved the audience in their performances, using bold dialogues and creative storytelling to convey their message.
The event successfully highlighted the theme “Literacy for Mutual Understanding and Peace,” showcasing how education serves as a crucial tool for fostering a harmonious society.
